Charter for experts and researchers of the Rumsiki Institute for Strategic Studies (IRES)
FOREWORD
The mission of the Institut Rhumsiki d'Études Stratégiques (IRES) is to promote research, innovation and sustainable development in Africa through high-level strategic studies. This charter defines the principles, commitments and responsibilities of the experts and researchers affiliated with the IRES.
Article 1 : Objectives of the Charter
The aims of this charter are to :
- To define the fundamental values and principles governing the activities of IRES experts and researchers.
- To manage relations between IRES members and external stakeholders.
- Promoting excellence, integrity and innovation in all research activities.
Article 2 : Fundamental values
IRES experts and researchers undertake to respect and promote the following values:
1. Integrity: Adherence to the highest ethical standards in all research and publication activities.
2. Excellence: Commitment to quality and academic rigour in the production and dissemination of knowledge.
3. Collaboration: Promotion of teamwork and knowledge sharing with colleagues and partners.
4. Innovation: Continuous search for new ideas, methods and solutions to meet contemporary strategic challenges.
5. Respect for diversity: Valuing the diversity of perspectives, cultures and disciplines in our research.
Article 3 : Responsibilities of Experts and Researchers
IRES experts and researchers have the following responsibilities :
3.1. Research and Publications
- Produce original and rigorous research that meets IRES' strategic objectives.
- Publish the results of their research in quality academic journals and/or through IRES distribution channels.
- Respect citation standards and avoid all forms of plagiarism.
3.2. Participation and Contribution
- Participate actively in projects, seminars, conferences and other activities organised by the IRES.
- Contribute to the development of the Institute's research programmes and strategic initiatives.
- Supporting and mentoring young researchers and students associated with the IRES.
3.3. Ethical commitment
- Adopt a professional attitude in all internal and external interactions.
- Respect the confidentiality of sensitive or confidential information obtained in the course of their duties.
- Avoid conflicts of interest and report any situation that could compromise their objectivity.
3.4. Use of Resources
- To use IRES resources responsibly and in accordance with current policies.
- Contribute to the preservation and proper use of the infrastructure and equipment made available by the IRES.
Article 4 : Relationships with Partners and Institutions
IRES experts and researchers must :
- Maintain constructive and respectful relations with partners, institutions and other external stakeholders.
- Promote the image and reputation of IRES in all their public interactions.
- Foster inter-institutional collaborations to strengthen research capacities and the impact of strategic studies.
Article 5 : Experts‘ and researchers’ rights
IRES experts and researchers enjoy the following rights:
- Access to IRES documentary resources, libraries, databases and other research tools.
- Opportunities to publish and disseminate their work via IRES platforms.
- Participation in continuing education programmes, seminars and workshops organised by the Institute.
- Opportunity to propose and direct research projects within IRES.
Article 6 : Penalties and Disciplinary Measures
In the event of non-compliance with the provisions of this charter, disciplinary sanctions may be applied, including :
- Written warning.
- Temporary suspension from certain responsibilities or access to resources.
- Permanent exclusion from the IRES in the event of serious or repeated breaches.
Article 7 : Review the Charter
This charter may be reviewed periodically by the IRES Board of Directors. Any modification will be communicated to the experts and researchers, and their adherence to the revised version will be required.
Article 8 : Compliance with the Charter
Compliance with this charter is mandatory for all IRES experts and researchers. By signing this charter, they undertake to respect its provisions in all their activities within the institute.
